Bill Grossman, President, called the meeting to order. He welcomed Board members and visitors and ascertained that there were enough Board members present for a quorum.
Announcements and Political Campaign Speakers – Introduced new board member Hayward Wescott. Political candidates present were Denis Warner, running for Superior Court Judge; Fran Millar, State Senate, Eric Christ, State Senate; Nancy Jester, DeKalb County School Board; Bobby Gillis, DeKalb County School Board, Jim Redovian, DeKalb County School Board. Mr. Redovian gave an update on the renovation to the high school and spoke specifically about the new retention pond. The entire renovation project is on schedule. Mr. Redovian spoke of DeKalb County School System being eligible for $30 million from the federal government, and how that money should be used to rebuild Chamblee High School.
Approval of Minutes – The minutes for the August 1, 2010 Regular Board Meeting were approved.
Community Affairs
- Bill Grossman announced that the DHA would sponsor a candidate forum on Tuesday, October 26, 2010, to be held at Dunwoody Methodist Fellowship Hall. Judge Becker will serve as the moderator. Candidates invited include all three running for DeKalb County School Board, District 1; the two running for State Senate, District 40; the two running for State Representative, District 79.
- Light Up Dunwoody Bill Grossman said that this year’s Light Up Dunwoody, on November 21, would be scaled down from previous years. The event will be at the farmhouse. Not as many student groups would be involved. It will start at 4:30 pm at the DHA office, with a parade to the farmhouse, where Santa will be stationed. The tree lighting ceremony will start at 6 pm.
- The Peachtree Charter Middle School Fall Festival will take place on October 2 at the school.
- Dunwoody City Councilman Doug Thompson introduced Mitch Graber, a Dunwoody bicycle advocate. Mr. Graber is seeking DHA support for permanent bicycle racks to be spread across Dunwoody Village. Mr. Graber is seeking funds to have stainless steel racks installed at a cost of $240 per rack. There is no plan yet on where the racks will be placed. A manufacturer in Chamblee will make the racks. The city needs to approve the racks.
- Dunwoody Fall Festival Bill Grossman had a meeting with MJ Thomas of the Dunwoody Chamber of Commerce. The chamber would like the DHA to have an entry in the festival’s chili cook-off. The chamber also asked the DHA to purchase walkie-talkies for festival use, which also could be used for the 4th of July parade.
Board-only Discussion – the nominating committee nominated Joe Tuttle for the vacancy on the executive committee. Joe was unanimously elected.
