Hot
Dunwoody
By Ken Wright, President,
Dunwoody Homeowners
Association, Inc.
Dunwoody was recently
ranked as one of the
hottest towns in America
by Fortune magazine.
It used Dunwoody’s
average household
income, and the ratio
of household income
to housing value,
as two reasons Dunwoody
ranked so high. Other
sources cite Dunwoody’s
“central location”
for its ranking as
a great place to live.
Dunwoody is and will
remain one of the
most desirable places
to live, but for other
and different reasons.
Unlike national magazines
and reporters that
are unfamiliar with
this community, those
of us fortunate enough
to live here have
a deeper insight into
what makes this community
tick.
- Dunwoody is home
to some of the highest
ranked public schools
in the state. Thanks
to nearly 100% parental
involvement, the
schools attract
the best and brightest
educators and administrators.
This in turn creates
an environment where
great kids excel.
- Dunwoody is home
to the largest business
district in the
Southeast with a
plethora of Fortune
500 companies amongst
its ranks. As important,
many entrepreneurs
and business leaders
call Dunwoody home
and fill the office
space of our business
district. This business
district continues
to thrive and excel
due in large part
to community business
leaders who formed
a special tax district
called the Perimeter
Central Improvement
District (PCID).
These self imposed
extra taxes help
pay for sidewalks,
infrastructure improvements,
decorative lighting
and utility poles,
and to clean, mow
and maintain public
areas.
- Dunwoody is home
to leading spiritual
& faith based
organizations that
provide direction,
word and gospel
to many both within
and outside our
community.
- Dunwoody is home
to deeply involved
civic organizations
such as the Dunwoody
Preservation Trust,
Dunwoody Woman’s
Club, Dunwoody Rotary
and Kiwanis clubs,
Dunwoody Nature
Center and numerous
garden clubs, to
name just a few.
These organizations
provide a variety
of opportunities
to give back to
the community.
- Residential Dunwoody
is home to entrepreneurs
who contribute time
and money to maintain
public areas, and
to support the arts
and public events
in the residential
part of our community.
- Dunwoody is home
to one of the oldest,
largest and most
powerful homeowners’
organizations in
the country; The
Dunwoody Homeowner
Association. The
DHA has fought for
the betterment of
this community and
its residents for
over 35 years. It
is an organization
that orchestrates
and helps finance
community events
such as the Fourth
of July parade and
Light up Dunwoody,
and maintenance
of public areas.
It represents homeowners
on almost any issue
that affects the
Dunwoody community.
All these are important
reasons that Dunwoody
is a “hot”
community.
There is one more
vital reason Dunwoody
is such an outstanding
community: its people.
Excellence breeds
excellence in all
aspects of life, whether
it is business or
family, religious
or charitable endeavors.
Involvement breeds
involvement. Giving
breeds giving. Community
breeds community.
Thus, Dunwoody is
“hot”
because the majority
of its population
believes in the community
and the direct impact
they have on this
community.
The community does
not sit back and expect
things to just happen,
they make things happen.
Your personal involvement
in every aspect of
this community is
the difference between
being just another
community of asphalt
and traffic in this
metropolis we call
Atlanta and the tightly
knit small town community
called Dunwoody.
