The
Parade is coming!
By Ken Wright, President,
Dunwoody Homeowners
Association, Inc.
Co-sponsors Dunwoody
Homeowners Association
and Crier Newspapers
proudly announce the
2004 edition of the
July Fourth "Dunwoody
Salutes America"
parade. This year
we will honor the
American flag, the
symbol of our country,
by adopting the theme
"Hooray for the
Red, White and Blue."
As in the past, participants
will assemble in the
parking lots of Dunwoody
Ace Home Place and
All Saints Catholic
Church, and, at 9:30
AM sharp, proceed
west on Mt. Vernon
Road, wind around
Dunwoody Village Parkway
and end in Dunwoody
Village for the closing
ceremony. Young children,
accompanied by supervising
adults, will gather
at St. Luke's Presbyterian
Church and join the
parade as it passes
by.
Since the parade
will have few changes
from the past, let's
highlight the differences:
- The 2004 parade
will be held on
Monday, July 5th.
- Dr. B. Wiley
Stephens, senior
minister of Dunwoody
United Methodist
Church, will serve
as Grand Marshal.
Dr. Stephens has
served as pastor
since 1989 and has
been very active
in Dunwoody community
affairs. A comprehensive
biography will appear
in the parade program.
- As usual, politicians
will be at the head
of the parade to
allow some to participate
in other area events.
Given the large
number of candidates
in this year's elections,
we have a great
opportunity to identify
those who ask to
serve in executive,
legislative and
judicial offices
at national, state
and county levels.
We have asked them
to accommodate those
parade participants
who follow by remaining
in their vehicles.
Now for the things
that won't change:
- Neighborhoods,
civic organizations,
businesses and individuals
are invited to participate
by decorating vehicles,
dressing in costume
or simply marching
in the parade. Go
to the DHA website
www.dunwoodyga.org
or call 770-817-8100
for a registration
form. Complete instructions
are included.
- Others are encouraged
to line the parade
route to cheer on
the marchers.
- Follow the parade
to Dunwoody Village
for the 11:30 AM
closing ceremony.
There will be music,
food and fun for
adults and children
as we salute the
flag and announce
winners of the parade
competition.
To show support for
our soldiers, the
parade committee will
join forces with others
in the community who
gather items to send
to those deployed
overseas. More information
on how you can help
this wonderful cause
will be covered separately.
Make your plans now
to be a part of the
parade and other events
as we celebrate our
nation's birthday!
