March 2014 Meeting Minutes

Vice-President Heyward Wescott presided, all executive board members present except Stacey Harris.

Vice-President Wescott welcomed elected officials and distinguished visitors. Dekalb Sheriff Candidates Jeff Mann and Melvin Miller offered brief remarks on behalf of their respective candidacies. Mann also explained the roles and responsibilities of the Sheriff’s department.

  1. Board unanimously approved minutes for December 2014 and the January 2014 annual meeting.
  2. Caro Realty and Walton Communities: Laurel David, attorney for Walton and Matt Teague of Walton, addressed the board and guests.

    Plans call for a 120 unit, four story senior living property on 3.4 acres at Chamblee Dunwoody and Old Spring House Lane; behind the Waffle House and adjacent to Georgetown Shopping Center. Tentatively named Legacy it is deed restricted to tenants aged 55+ and over; construction will be “stick-built.
  3. Walgreen’s 24 hour proposal: A representative from Walgreens discussed the desire to operate the Dunwoody Village location on a 24 hour basis; for all services except Pharmacy.
  4. Food Truck Thursdays 2014-Bill Grossman announced intentions to expand FTT to 27 consecutive weeks beginning May 1, and ending October 30th. Bill explained the need for sponsors to improve musical talent and help with costs; encouraging the city to help as well. 

Board Only Session

  1. Walton Communities: Board had some discussion regarding construction quality but took no action due to the lack of final details and impending review by the planning commission the following week. 
  2. Walgreens: Board voted unanimously with two abstentions, to oppose Walgreens request for 24 hour operation in Dunwoody village.
